October 21, 1994: I performed for the 25th anniversary of the death of Jack Kerouac

Thirty years ago today

On Friday I posed from 9:00 to 15:00 at Central technical School then I went home for my rehearsal with Tom Smarda and Steve Lowe. They were both late but we had a good practice and then headed over to the book store in Mervish Village. Nik Beat had invited us to perform at the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the death of Jack Kerouac that he’d organized. We were early and so when Adina arrived we went for a beer. By the time we got back it was time to go on but Steve had stepped out. So I read some prose from On the Road while Tom and Nik jammed. Then Steve came back and we did a pretty good show with Mike Martin on bongos and Yehudah on cello. Steve left almost immediately after we performed, then Tom and Mike headed off a little later. I performed a couple of my own poems. Yehudah stayed until the end of the event. Mary Milne was still cold towards Adina, it seemed because she resented me be being with a seventeen year old woman. Adina, Matthew and I went to Toby’s and then I walked Adina to the bus.
