Gena Rowlands

On Monday morning I searched for the chords for “C’est le Bebop” by Boris Vian and was surprised that no one had posted them because it’s kind of a hot little number. Tomorrow I’ll start working them out.
I finished transcribing the chords for “Dispatch box” that are posted on Ultimate Guitar and searched for more but no one else had posted any. I worked them out for the intro and for the first line.
I played my Kramer electric guitar during song practice for the final of four sessions.
I weighed 87.6 kilos before leaving for the dentist. I got there just as the patient before me was called in, and so I got some more of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight re-read.
After staying for a few days at Lord Bertilak’s castle Gawain is about to continue his quest for the Green Chapel so he can be there by New Year’s Day. But Bertilak tells him he knows where the chapel is and so he can stay as a guest until New Years. Bertilak says he is going to hunt for the next few days and makes a bargain with Gawain that he will give him whatever he catches and in exchange Gawain will give him whatever he wins while staying each day in the castle. The first day Bertilak is hunting deer at the same time that his wife sneaks into Gawain’s bedroom, trapping him in his modesty under the covers and forcing him to flirt with her.
Dr. Lake fixed all of my fillings including the two unsightly front ones. But she says there is a lot of bone loss in those teeth and they aren’t going to last much longer. At first she said I might be eligible to get a crown under the seniors plan but then said that there is too much bone loss for a crown. She told me two years ago that she was going to refer me to the dental school at U of T to get gum treatment but as far as I know they never called me. She said they don’t even pick up the phone when she calls. She said she’ll do another referral and if they don’t call in two months for me to call her again to get another referral. Maybe I’ll just go down there and ask.
The assistant advised me not to eat while my mouth was frozen. I had delayed breakfast when I left for my appointment and so I just skipped it altogether.
I weighed 86.7 kilos at 11:30 when I got back from the dentist.
I weighed 86.4 kilos before lunch.
In the afternoon I took a bike ride downtown and back.
            I weighed 86.5 kilos at 17:30.
I was caught up on my journal at 18:45.
I re-read several more pages of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. For three days in a row Lady Bertilak traps Gawain on his bed and tries to tempt him. Each day she gives him a kiss. On the first of those days Lord Bertilak hunts and fells a deer, which he gives to Gawain. According to their bargain Gawain gives Bertilak that which he won that day and each of the first two days it is a kiss that he gives him. But on the third day Lady Bertilak gives Gawain a magical green belt to wear under his armour and protect him from harm. Gawain doesn’t offer that gift to Bertilak but gives him three kisses. The next day Gawain is taken by a guide to the vicinity of the Green Chapel. The guide begs him to run because of the horrible giant that stalks that place. Gawain finds that the Green Chapel is actually a mound that is a Pagan burial ground. Gawain seems angry that it’s not a Christian chapel. He stands there as the Green Knight arrives.
I made a new batch of gravy with half pork and half chicken drippings. I had some with a potato and a chicken leg while watching season 1, episode 28 of Burke’s Law.
Powerful gossip columnist Whitman Saunders, his assistant Milo Morgan, baseball star Eddie Dineen, and a beautiful woman are at a table in a high class restaurant. They leave to get in their car with one person and his date ahead of them on the curb. The other man’s car pulls up and the door is opened as the dead body of a woman half falls out. Dineen seems to recognize her. When Burke talks to Mr. Beldon the car owner the man is very upset. He says he’s never seen the girl before. They find the dead woman’s driver’s license and her name is Annie Foran and she was strangled. They go to Annie’s building where Fisk the manager says he heard a prowler in Annie’s apartment. He says Annie had a lot of male visitors. They find expensive jewellery in Annie’s place and so the burglar was not after money. They find a portrait of Dineen in her bedroom signed “Love Eddie”. They go to the stadium where Eddie and his team are practicing while Saunders and Morgan watch. Eddie is playing poorly today. Burke talks with him in the dressing room and he denies knowing Annie. Burke goes to see Eddie’s wealthy girlfriend Mitzi who tells him that Eddie’s affair with Annie was brief and a long time ago. Eddie’s team manager confronts Eddie about Annie. Eddie says Annie was a tramp and that’s why he dumped her. Tim picks up Eddie and takes him downtown since he lied about not knowing Annie. Eddie says he didn’t want Saunders to know he knew Annie because he didn’t like her. What Saunders writes in his columns could make of break someone. He says good ball players are a dime a dozen but for success one needs good publicity. Burke interviews Saunders with Morgan there. Saunders says Annie was a stumbling block for Eddie and he gave her a bad mention in his column to get rid of her. Eddie goes missing. Mitzi tells Burke she’s given up on Eddie. Burke has Tim follow her to a hunting lodge where he is hiding. Tim and Eddie fight for a while and then Eddie is arrested. Beldon’s car where Annie’s body was found was identical to that of Saunders. Burke concludes that the killer thought it belonged to Saunders and hoped to frame him. Eddie tells Burke that on the night of the murder Morgan came late to meet them for dinner. Burke goes to Morgan who tells him Saunders cheated him out of a column with news of a scandal when they were both reporters. Then Saunders hired Morgan and made him his slave. Morgan hated Saunders. He admits he killed Annie to frame him.
Mitzi was played by Gena Rowlands, who made her Broadway debut in The Seven Year Itch. Her first film was a co-starring role in The High Cost of Loving. She co-starred in A Child is Waiting, Faces, Lonely Are the Brave, and Tempest. She starred in A Woman Under the Influence, Opening Night, Love Streams, Minnie and Moskowitz, Paulie, Another Woman, and Gloria, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. She was married to actor, writer and director John Cassavetes. She collaborated with him many times and has control over his work now. She has refused to release the first version of his film Shadows or even acknowledge that it exists.
