Thirty years ago today
On Wednesday evening I was on my way to catch the subway downtown so I could sign in early at Fat Albert’s open stage when I ran into Arjan on the Main bus. He was from Chicago and I knew him from hearing him read his poetry on various open stages. He said he’d just bought a bass and was learning how to play and so I suggested that he play for Christian and the Lions. He was positive about the idea and so we talked about getting together. I signed in at Fats and then went to Ludwig Zeller’s book launch. He gave me a copy of his book of poems and collages. I went back to perform at Fats.
