March 12, 1993: I paid my phone bill and the reinstallment fee but Bell said I also needed to pay a $600 security deposit

Thirty years ago

            On Friday I worked from 9:00 to 16:00 at the Ontario College of Art. At lunch time I picked up my OCA cheque and my Board of Education cheque and deposited enough in chequing to cover my rent. I had almost $900. After work I went to the Bell Trinity Centre and paid off my phone bill, plus the reinstallment charge. But then when I called to have my phone reconnected I was told that I had to pay a $600 security deposit, which I didn't have. The rich stay rich by gouging the poor. I went home and vegged out in front of the TV.
