Thirty years ago today
On Tuesday I posed at the Ontario College of Art and after work went directly to the Gladstone Hotel to begin setting up the Bronco Bar for the first annual Speed of Light Squared Ants and Mass. That was what I called the first anniversary of my writers open stage, the Orgasmic Alphabet Orgy being at the Gladstone Hotel. The drum kit was incomplete to accompany the performance of my band Christian and the Lions. We rehearsed and the drummer, who’d been recommended by Pat from the Leslie Spit Treeo sucked, but then she thought we sucked. I argued with my guitarist Tom Smarda. We had a good turnout. The Spits came by later and I let them do a song. At around 22:00 Herbie Appleby the co-owner of the Gladstone came along and told us we had to clear out because he was losing money paying for a bartender for the room. I was pissed off and I argued with him. He said he’d give us until 22:30 to have more than fifty people in the room. At 23:00 he came and shut us down. I dissed him over the microphone. Then we all went over to the Art Bar where we finished the event and with forty people in that little room it was magically intense and a really great finale for our anniversary.
