I played my Kramer electric guitar during song practice for the last of two sessions. It was pretty much in tune from the start. Tomorrow I’ll begin a two session stretch of playing my Martin acoustic guitar.
I weighed 87.9 kilos before breakfast.
My upstairs neighbour David knocked on my door to get his key, as he just returned from Africa yesterday. I’d been watering his plant while he was in Ethiopia. He looks pretty gaunt and says he caught malaria while he was there.
I weighed 88.3 kilos before lunch.
I took a siesta and slept even later than yesterday. I woke up at around 16:45 so it was too late again for a bike ride downtown. I rode to Ossington and Bloor and stopped at Long and McQuade just before closing to buy three 10 gauge guitar strings. They didn’t have tens so I got elevens.
I weighed 87.45 kilos at 18:18.
I was caught up in my journal at 20:00.
I tried to import Wings of Desire to Movie Maker but it wouldn’t accept the MKV file format. I tried CloudConvert but it won’t convert files larger than 1 gig for free. That seems to be true of all free online converters. I tried downloading a few video converters from Pirate Bay but the cracks didn’t work. Finally I found out my own VLC Media Player will convert files and so I’ve started that process but I’ll be in bed when it’s done.
I had the last of my lima bean and pea stew with a slice of toasted multigrain sandwich bread and a beer while watching the first half of the animated film Batman vs Two Face.
In a top secret prison laboratory with a sign on the door reading “Top Secret” a tv broadcast of a top secret experiment is about to begin. But it won’t start until Batman and Robin arrive, and Batman is on a date with Catwoman, albeit through the bars of her cell window. He assures her that in only 37 months they’ll be together. They are about to kiss when Robin shouts from below that they are going to be late. They arrive and Batman meets Harvey Dent who he pretends to have never met but Dent and Batman’s alter ego are best friends. Dent asks Robin if it isn’t past his bedtime. They meet Hugo Strange who is the scientist behind the experiment they are about to witness. Strange’s machine is called the Evil Extractor which he says can remove the evil from any criminal, making the Batman’s job obsolete. Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Egghead, and Mr. Freeze are brought in. They are strapped to chairs and headsets are lowered down. Strange explains that the machine will siphon the evil from these villains and pump it into a collection vat. Strange’s assistant is Dr. Quinzel who is either the current or future Harley Quinn and Joker’s girlfriend. She and Joker do exchange knowing glances. She turns on the machine and green energy flows from the headsets into the vat. But then Joker tells the others, “Okay boys, pour it on!” and they all laugh. Strange observes that they are trying to overload the machine with their evil. Strange calls for Quinzel to shut it down but it’s too late. The vat cracks and the evil pours out directly onto Dent, who becomes Two Face. An undisclosed amount of time later in the Sisters of Perpetual Irony Hospital the bandages come off and Harvey Dent is no longer half scarred. He is whole again. He is offered the job of assistant to the assistant district attorney when before he was the district attorney. Six months later at a small airport, King Tut’s thugs knock out the guards so Tut can steal a rare biplane. Meanwhile Harriet and Alfred are dressed up and ready to go to the annual millionaires’ soiree in the place of Bruce and Dick. Harriet says to Bruce and Dick “Lucky for us you boys have another one of your ‘fishing trips’” She says it in a tone that suggests she knows their secret identities. Batman and Robin answer the Bat Signal and hear of King Tut’s latest crime. Batman learns that the company that sponsored tonight’s millionaires’ tour is the Nile Double Decker Bus Company. They deduce that must be Tut’s next target and they realize they have put Alfred and Harriet in danger. Meanwhile Tut and his two thugs drop onto the open upper deck of the bus and begin robbing the guests. The Batmobile comes up behind the bus, Batman activates auto-pilot and he and Robin board the bus. The fight begins but Batman stops to activate the Bat Net on the Batmobile. He puts Alfred in charge of getting the riders to jump into the net. Batman and Robin defeat Tut’s goons but Tut sends two robot asps to bite them with knockout venom in their fangs. They wake to find themselves trapped in canopic jars at the bottom of the pit of the foundation of the Pyramid Tower. Cement is poured on top of them to bury them alive but they use the rockets in their boots to escape. Tut attacks them one more time but they punch him together and he falls down and a rock falls on his head, reverting him back to Professor McElroy. Batman and Robin escort McElroy away but leave behind the bag of stolen items. A couple of Two face’s men emerge from the shadows and make off with the bag, mentioning how their boss’s plan is falling into shape. Back at police headquarters Batman learns that the biplane Tut stole is also missing. Since McElroy remembers nothing, O’Hara knocks him over the head with his billy-club to turn him back to Tut. Tut grabs the nightstick and hits himself over the head again, changing himself back to McElroy. This goes back and forth until Batman stops O’Hara. McElroy’s lawyer Lucille Diamond arrives and later defends him in court. Dent argues that Tut is not entirely independent of McElroy’s consciousness since he still uses McElroy’s Egyptological expertise. He concludes that makes McElroy the real mastermind. That’s a stretch. McElroy gets 15 years with possible time off for good behaviour. A box arrives at police headquarters addressed to Batman. Inside is a world atlas that’s been eaten by worms. They conclude it’s from the Bookworm. Batman says several pages are missing of different world capitals. The longitudes and latitudes of those cities correspond to the Dewey Decimal library system. The numbers correspond to rare editions of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde, The Man in the Iron Mask, and A Tale of Two Cities. Meanwhile Bookworm is breaking into the library vault. He plans to turn he leather bindings into a cape. Batman and Robin confront him and there is a fight with four of his men that they and Bookworm lose. As O’Hara takes Bookworm away he says it’s lucky Batman figured out his clues but Bookworm says he left no clues. Batman and Robin see that that rare books were stolen during the fight. They note that all the books have themes of duality and also that Tut stole a “bi” plane and robbed a “double” decker bus. Both crimes point to Two Face but he’s been rehabilitated. They head to Two face’s old hideout at the abandoned sign factory and find him there with his thugs. Two Face shoots a giant number 2 down on Batman and Robin, pinning them. Two Face’s men want to kill them but Two face flips his coin and the clean side wins, so Two Face leaves them there. Batman is not convinced that Harvey Dent is the current Two face. Batman and Robin visit Dent in his office and his face is normal. He is surprised about Two Face and says he’ll fully cooperate. After Batman leaves, Dent makes a phone call and begs the person on the other end to stop. The voice at the other end is that of Two Face. Later in Hugo Strange’s private lab he is confronted by Two Face. he grabs him and talks of unfinished business. Strange screams.
Harvey dent is played by Canadian actor William Shatner. He was born and raised in Montreal and attended McGill University. My late friend Bill “Scooter” Baker was at McGill at the same and was in a dance class with Shatner. When I asked if they knew each other, Scooter said, “Oh no! In those days we didn’t talk to Jews!” After graduation with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Shatner became assistant manager for a theatre group. He eventually became an understudy at the Stratford Festival and once he took on larger roles came to the attention of critics. he starred on Broadway in The World of Susie Wong. This led to his film and television career. He starred in The Stranger, White Comanche, Kingdom of the Spiders, Incubus (speaking entirely Esperanto). He played assistant district attorney Earl Rhodes on The Defenders. In 1966 he became the star of Star Trek, followed by the movies Star Trek I to VI. But after Star Trek the TV series was cancelled his wife left him and he was homeless until he started getting money making parts again. He was the star of T.J. Hooker from 1982 to 1986. He hosted Rescue 911. He co-starred on Boston Legal from 2004 to 2008. Shatner is an expert equestrian. In Halloween, Michael Myers wears a William Shatner mask that has been painted white. He owns a paintball centre called Splatt Attack. He’s the CEO of Core Digital Effects in Toronto. He’s written several Star Trek novels. he wrote the Tek War series of books, which also became a TV mini series, with some episodes directed by Shatner. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
