Brazed New Old Bike

On Monday morning I searched again for an app that could transcribe French lyrics from YouTube videos and finally found Vizard. I pasted the URL of the video of the Serge Gainsbourg song “Au risque de te déplaire” (At the Risk You’ll Have the Blues) by Marie-Blanche Vergne into the app, selected the language and got a fairly accurate transcript. I was able to then memorize the second verse and only made some slight adjustments to the lyrics as I heard them.
I played my Martin acoustic guitar during song practice and all the songs I’d forgotten yesterday were back in my memory like they’d never left.
I weighed 87.05 kilos before breakfast.
Around midday I finished adding shades of blue to the sepia copy of frame 19 of my rainbow wave animation. There are ten more frames to do.
I weighed 86.9 kilos before lunch.
On Saturday I picked up my vintage Raleigh from Biseagal at Carlaw and Dundas. Malcolm had fixed the frame where it had broken. The drive side chain stay had broken off from the rear axel wells. This had happened a few years ago in the same place but Tom from Bike Pirates had done a welding patch job and it lasted five years but it was an amateur job. Malcolm reinforced the pipe with s steel rod and then brazed on a replacement dropout. His work is guaranteed for life.

On Monday afternoon I took a bike ride downtown and back and went straight to Metro Cycle to pick up my Raleigh, which had gotten a tune-up, new cables, and two new derailleurs. I paid $400 cash. Gordon made an adjustment to my Surly which might have fixed the squeaking problem. He rode the Surly and I rode the Raleigh up O’Hara a ways and I couldn’t hear squeaking when he put on the brakes.
I weighed 86.45 kilos at 18:30. I was caught up on my journal at 19:45. I made a sepia copy of frame 20 of my rainbow wave animation and added five shades of blue. After this there are nine frames to do. I sprinkled eleven chicken drumsticks with paprika and grilled them in the oven. I had two with a potato and gravy while watching the penultimate episode of Birdman and the Galaxy Trio. In the first Birdman story, an ancient pirate ship captained by the real Captain Kidd but with modern weapons (The cannons shoot freeze rays) robs an ocean liner and kidnaps two passengers (a scientist and a philanthropist) along with all the treasure on the ship. The modern weapons are the inventions of Kidd’s hooded partner Dr. Demon. Kidd talks about having survived because his ship was sunk in the ice filled sea. But William Kidd was hanged in 1701 and his body was gibbeted over the river Thames for three years. Birdman is notified and zeroes in on the pirate ship with his solar compass. They see him coming and fire a freeze ray that is deflected by Birdman’s solar shield but freezes Avenger, who lands on the deck and is placed in a cage. Then Birdman is hit by a paralyzer ray and then chained in the brig. Avenger breaks free of its cage. Birdman is made to walk the plank into the midst of some waiting tiger sharks. His hands are tied behind his back but he manages to kick at the sharks to hold them off. He calls to Avenger even though he is under water. Avenger dives but still cries out with its beak open under water. It chews the ropes and they both fly to the surface. Birdman recharges his solar energy and attacks the pirates again and this time their weapons are easily deflected by his shield. Birdman defeats Kidd and Demon and frees the hostages. In the Galaxy Trio story, the evil scientist Gralik completes his ultra gravitizer weapon. It can increase or decrease gravity to extreme degrees. He makes a 45,0000 kilo block hurtle 16,000 kilometers into space. He calls King Gramor on the planet Gravitas. Gralik is the former Minister of Science for Gravitas who was exiled because he dishonoured his position. Now he seeks his revenge and demonstrates what he can do to Gravitas from another planet. He lifts Gramor’s new science building and smashes it on the ground. Gralik gives Gramor 12 hours to agree to transfer power to him or he will use his weapon on the population. Gramor contacts the Galaxy Trio and we learn that Gramor is Gravity Girl’s father and that she is a princess. Oddly she doesn’t seem to have a first name as her father just calls her Gravity Girl. Gravity Girl says Gralik’s old laboratory is on Moonoid 49 and so Condor 1 heads there. There is an anti-gravity field around the asteroid that they can’t penetrate but are able to displace to the surface through their lazon tubes, which pretty much look like a Star Trek transporter. As soon as they beam into Gralik’s lab he uses his weapon and pins them to the ceiling. Meteor Man grows to a giant and punches through the wall. Gravity Girl lifts Gralik off the ground but suddenly he’s on the ground again and aiming his weapon. Vapour Man takes it away but then Gralik wields a neutron grenade. Gravity Girl lifts his weapon and points it at him. He tries to knock it away and accidentally pulls the trigger causing him to be shot into space. In the second Birdman story Falcon 7 reports that a UFO has been seen near the Bird Lair, so Birdman checks it out. Inside is Advance Scout Skon of the Omnos invasion fleet. He sees Birdman coming and shoots his blastoid missiles at him but Birdman takes them out in various ways. Skon appears before Birdman and uses his sword to turn to fire but that doesn’t work and then he freezes Birdman who gets free with solar power. Skon turns to water and escapes. He turns to a boulder and knocks out Birdman who wakes up in a transparent tube in Skon’s ship. Skon tries to use solar power to transport Birdman to the invasion fleet but doesn’t realize he is charging Birdman’s power. Birdman breaks free. Skon launches a blastoid but Birdman wrecks Skon’s console. Skon wields his sword but Birdman melts it. Skon tries to get away but Birdman captures him in a blastoid missile. He then sends him in his ship back to the invasion fleet having convinced Skon that all Earthlings have powers like Birdman’s.
