June 15, 1994:

Thirty years ago today

On Wednesday I got a message on my machine from Michelle asking me out for a drink. That night I went to the Fat Albert’s open stage and performed my song “Body Like a Bell”:

(Let the night-wind ring your body like a bell)
I’m shattered ‘cause I live in different times at once
(Let the night-wind ring your body like a bell)
My heart it fuels the engine of the past when it pumps
(Let the night-wind ring your body like a bell)
While my penis takes a hammer to the future’s dam
(Let the night-wind ring your body like a bell)
till it can ride upon the shockwaves of a woman again
(Let the night-wind ring your body like a bell)
(Let the moonlight move your spirit like a sail)
Riding shotgun on her body till its rabid horse
(Let the moonlight move your spirit like a sail)
pulls her burning wagon down the chasm of lust
(Let the moonlight move your spirit like a sail)
Silver miners leave my penis with the motherlode
(Let the moonlight move your spirit like a sail)
and then I add my groaning drumroll to her musical moans
(Let the moonlight move your spirit like a sail)
(Let the raindrops play your skin just like a drum)
The body is the hub of our eternity
(Let the raindrops play your skin just like a drum)
The soul is not the place where it plays hide and seek
(Let the raindrops play your skin just like a drum)
Our thoughts are just the river of our dreams in flood
(Let the raindrops play your skin just like a drum)
Its the skin and not the heart that’s our receptacle of love
(Let the raindrops play your skin just like a drum)
(Let the moonlight move your spirit like a sail)
(Let the night wind ring your body like a bell)
