Thirty years ago today
On Wednesday evening I went to Fat Albert’s open stage and started performing my song “Dahshine” with Tom Smarda and Steve Lowe backing me up. But when I got to the chorus and the line, “Don’t smile at me unless you wanna have sex with me” Steve was offended and walked off the stage. A lot of people, especially women, had told me they liked the song, but Steve couldn’t understand why I would think someone would want to have sex with me just because they smiled at me. As if he’d never gotten a wrong impression from the expression on someone’s face.
