October 8, 1993: The private art group I posed for gave me drinks and dinner and everybody was drunk when I left

Thirty years ago today

On the night of Thursday, October 7, I didn’t go straight to Mudds Cabaret after working at Artists 25 because I’d promised to escort Diana Scala there. So I went to her place in the building where Rochdale College used to be. Because of that I couldn’t buy a Metropass like I’d wanted because there was no time. At Mudds we had a reading and then Mary Milne dropped Diana off before driving me home and coming in for tea.
On Friday I worked at West Toronto Secondary School and at lunchtime I rushing through Lansdowne Station on my way to Sherbourne Station to buy a Metropass when I almost ran right into Tanya. She told me she was moving out of Toronto on Sunday and so I gave her a goodbye hug and she gave me a book of her poems. I got my Metropass and went back to work until 15:00. Then I went downtown to pick up my cheque from the Ontario College of Art. I took out a money order to pay for my rent and then I went walking down Yonge Street to shop for porno mags when I ran into Tanya again. We went for coffee and talked and then we both caught the College car. I thought I was late to work for the group of artists in the drawing session for which Tom Hendry had hired me and so I got off the streetcar at Ossington and ran all the way to Queen. At first I rang the wrong buzzer at the house but finally I found the place. I posed for two hours, had a beer, some wine, and dinner, and everyone was drunk by the time I left.
