Still Steamy But No Longer Dirty

On Sunday morning I memorized the third, fourth and fifth verses of “Ciel de plomb" (The Sky is Leaden) by Serge Gainsbourg. There are only two verses left and those only contain a couple of new lines each and the rest is repetition, so I should have it nailed down on Monday morning.
I weighed 89.3 kilos before breakfast.
In the late morning I scrubbed with baking soda, Comet and brushes the stainless steel steamer that fits on top of my main cooking pot. I always clean it with a cloth and hot water after using it, but I don’t think I’d ever really scrubbed it. There was an incredible amount of food residue that had accumulated around the outside, especially in the grooves over the years. I worked on it for at least an hour.
I weighed 89.9 kilos before lunch.
I had a toasted tomato and old cheddar sandwich with lemonade.
In the afternoon I took a bike ride to Yonge and Bloor.
At 18:00 I had a two hour video chat with my daughter Astrid in Montreal. It was our first chat since December, so we had a lot to catch up on.
I had the last of my bacon, the last of my naan, an egg and a beer while watching two episodes of Andy Griffith.
In the first story Charlotte Darling comes to Mayberry from the mountains and asks Andy to drive her someplace. They end up in the woods in front of an oak tree. She digs a hole and buries a handkerchief, then she has Andy stand next to her while she performs an incantation. Then she announces that she’s just gotten a divorce from Dud Wash because he looked at another girl and that now Andy is her intended. When Charlotte’s father Briscoe and her brothers learn that the ritual has been performed they accept the divorce and commit Andy to marrying Charlotte on the full moon. Meanwhile Dud keeps trying to stop the wedding. Barney gets a book on mountain lore and learns that the best way to cancel the marriage is to dig up the handkerchief before the full moon. But the Darlings anticipate this and are there to stop Andy from digging. The next trick they try from the book is for a man wearing black while riding a white horse to pass the groom while riding from east to west, which would put a curse on the marriage. Andy gets Barney to be the rider but the problem is that Barney can’t ride and he’s allergic to horses. It takes quite a while leading up to the ceremony for Barney to stop the horse from going in circles or travelling north before he finally passes east to west and the wedding is cancelled. Then Charlotte attaches herself again to Dud.
Dud had been previously played by Hoke Howell but this time Bob Denver had the part. Apparently this was because Gilligan’s Island was about to be launched and so CBS wanted to promote it with the lead actor playing a part on another CBS show.
In the second story Opie and his friends are trying to win a pony by selling a certain amount of something called Miracle Salve. But nobody wants to buy it and the boys want to give up. But when Trey informs the company that he wants to send his supply back, they send a letter telling Trey he is black listed. Andy tells Trey the latter is just meant to intimidate him but it’s nothing. However Barney decides to try to trick the Miracle Salve guys into giving the boys their money back. Barney poses as a veterinarian and Gomer as Opie’s father. They surprise the two men who own Miracle Salve by telling them that they’ve discovered that Miracle Salve cures the mange. Gomer says he wants to buy all the salve that they’ve distributed from the boys. So next we see the two guys from Miracle buying back all the salve from the boys but then they deliver it all to Andy’s place. Not Andy makes Barney and Gomer go out to try to sell the salve.
I felt very sleepy around 22:30 and went to bed with my clothes on.
